Canadian Army Service records information:
Cecil was born in Tupton, Derbyshire, on the 5th February 1892. He enlisted in Regina, Saskatchewan, 31st March, 1915, stating his occupation as a farmer, and his next of kin as his father, John Clarke, of the Matlock Constabulary, Derbyshire. He had previously served with the 5th Notts and Derby Volunteers for four years.
He was five feet seven and a half inches in height, had a medium complexion, blue eyes and dark brown hair, and was a Presbyterian.
